Since its founding in 1957, KB Home has built more than 550,000 quality homes for families and individuals. Originally, the company focused on building homes for returning Korean War veterans, but has since expanded across eight states and 25 major markets.
This year as the company celebrates its 60th year, the Austin division of KB Home is celebrating its 20th year. Encompassing neighborhoods from Temple to San Marcos and all points in between, the Austin division communities include Parkside at Harris Branch, which is completing its final build-out; Retreat at Tech Ridge, which recently opened a new phase; and Vista Point in southeast Austin, which has a great price point and excellent location.
While KB Home’s presence throughout the Austin area is evident, they are expanding into new communities and developments. Throughout 2015 and 2016, KB Home built nearly 2,000 homes in the Austin-Round Rock MSA. “Our goals for 2017 reflect a similar increase in numbers, as we are always looking to have quality neighborhoods in the City of Austin,” says Gerry Poe, director of government and public affairs.
Currently, KB Home has approximately 20 active communities, but plans to increase this to around 25 active communities to better serve the market. “In the next few months, we will be opening Northridge Park, located near 290 and 183, and Brentwood Villas, a detached site condo community in a prime south Austin location,” Poe says.
Each KB Home property is distinct itself. With all Energy Star rated homes ranging from 1,200 to over 4,000 square feet, homeowners can choose from a variety of floor plans and design options. “Choice is what sets KB Home apart from the competition,” Poe says. “Our 6,000 square-foot design studio is staffed by seven studio consultants to assist our valued homeowners in the design selection process.”
Options include high-quality, top-name brands, such as Whirlpool and KitchenAid, Emser Tile, Moen, Shaw Floors and more.
To ensure a quality experience throughout the build process, closing and beyond, KB Home is committed to its customers. “Our Built to Order process takes the mystery out of buying a new home,” Poe says. “From our sales counselors to design studio consultants to construction teams, we will communicate to the homeowner through each phase of the process with weekly contact and continual updates.”
In addition to providing quality checkpoints during each phase of construction, KB Home customer service agents are assigned to each neighborhood to answer any questions throughout the closing and warranty period.
As the Austin division of KB Home prepares to build its 18,000 home this year, the company is also celebrating various initiatives that are important to business, such as sustainability. “We are a recognized leader in energy and water-efficient building,” Poe says. “For building the first WaterSense community in Texas we received the EPA Partner of the Year Award, and we are the only homebuilder to receive the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence Award for the last six years in a row.”
Additionally, through the KB Cares initiative, the company supports the communities where they live and work. “The Austin division is most proud of our relationship with the Center for Child Protection, the only non-profit in Travis County committed to the investigation of crimes against children,” Poe says. “We are extremely grateful to be able to support this cause as a result of our continued success in the market.”
In addition to the customer and community relationships, KB Home values its partnership with REALTORS. “Through our relationships with the focused, professional and hard-working REALTORS, we are proud that nearly 80 percent of homes sold in 2016 included a REALTOR, the highest participation in the country,” Poe says. “KB Home would like to thank all the REALTORS who helped make home ownership possible for so many individuals and families, and we look forward to continued partnership and success for years to come.” RL
